The last 2 days I have spent my time to do a try out of an agent-based simulation development console named Repast Simphony. Its an open source package, and relatively easy to study.

I tried the first tutorial, which is the gas pressure propagation simulation, and spent just 2 days for the whole tutorial (I believe you guys can even wrap it up within a day if you are serious enough). It is really easy to learn. I do recommend for you who will be involved in doing agent based simulation, since its a Java-based simulation package (they also provide the .NET version) and it has a lot of extensions to data analytical package such as Matlab, Weka, etc. Although the simulation development is done in Eclipse - Java environment, you will need almost no programming skill in this first tutorial. So there is no reason to be affraid of trying, since its really easy..

The result that I get from this 2 days tutorial is quite impressive. As you can see from the snapshots I presented here. Repast provides graphical presentations of the model and the corresponding measuring charts for data analysis purposes.

Although its just my first hand experience in doing agent-based simulation, but I feel like I want to do it more and more.. If you want to do research using agent-based modelling, my advise is get your hands dirty as soon as possible and enjoy the fun.. I think repast is a good start to do a try out..
